Prof Hendrik C. Ferreira: General co-Chair
  • Received the degrees BSc (Eng) Electrical (cum laude) in 1976, MSc (Eng) Electronic (cum laude) in 1978, and DSc (Eng) in 1980, all from the University of Pretoria.
  • Full professor at the Rand Afrikaans University (currently University of Johannesburg) since 1989.
  • Founding Chairman of the Information Theory Chapter of the IEEE South Africa Section and past chairman of the SA Communications and Signal Processing Chapter.
  • Technical Program Committee member: IEEE ISPLC, IEEE ISIT, IEEE Africon, IEEE Chinacom, etc.
 
Prof Han Vinck: General Co-Chair
  • Full professor in Digital Communications at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, since 1990.
  • Studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Eindhoven, Netherlands, where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1980.
  • He served on the Board of Governors of the IEEE Information Theory Society from 1997 until 2006. In 2003 he was elected President of the IEEE Information Theory Society.
  • Organised various international conferences.
 
Mrs Reolyn Heymann: General Vice Chair
  • Obtained B. Ing (cum laude) and B. Sc degree in 2004 and M. Ing (Cum Laude) in 2007 from the University of Johannesburg.
  • Appointed from 2005 – 2008 at Siemens Telecommunications.
  • Appointed as lecturer at the University of Johannesburg since 2008.
  • Organiser of the first African Winter School on Information Theory and Communications, 2010.
 
Dr Theo Swart: TPC co-Chair
  • Received the B. Eng degree (cum laude) in 1999, his M. Ing degree (cum laude) in 2001, as well as his D. Ing degree in 2006 from the University of Johannesburg.
  • Employed at the University of Johannesburg as a senior researcher since 2008.
  • Organiser of the first African Winter School on Information Theory and Communications, 2010.
Prof Haniph Latchman: TPC co-Chair
  • Obtained a B.Sc. (1st Class Honors) degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago in 1981 and a D.Phil. in Engineering from Oxford University in 1986.
  • Senior Member of the IEEE and has published almost 180 technical Journal articles and refereed conference proceedings and given conference presentations in the areas of his research in multivariable and computer control systems, communications and internetworking and innovative educational technologies.
 
Prof Francisco Cañete: TPC co-Chair
  • Received the MS and PhD degrees in Telecommunication Engineering in 1996 and 2004, respectively, from the University of Malaga (Spain).
  • In 1998, he joined the Communication Engineering Department, at the University of Málaga where he is currently an Associate Professor.
  • Collaborated on the organisation of various international conferences.
  • TPC member of various conferences, including ISPLC, Globecom and ICC.
 
Dr Khmaies Ouahada: Publication Chair
  • Received the B. Eng degree in 1995 from the University of Khartoum, Sudan.
  • Received his M. Ing degree (cum laude) in 2002 from the University of Johannesburg, as well as his D. Ing degree in 2009.
  • Permanent Senior lecturer at the University of Johannesburg since 2008.
  • Organiser of the first African Winter School on Information Theory and Communications, 2010.
 
Mr Abe Snyders: Sponsorship and local arrangement
  • Received the BIng degree in 1998 and his MIng degree (cum laude) in 2006 from the University of Johannesburg.
  • He is busy completing his doctoral degree in power line communications.
  • Appointed as lecturer at the University of Johannesburg since 2010.
 
Dr Ling Cheng: local arrangement
  • Received the B. Eng degree in 1995 from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, Hubei, China. Received his M. Ing degree (cum laude) in 2005 from the University of Johannesburg, has submitted his D. Ing dissertation in 2010.
  • Appointed from 1995 – 2002 with China Mobile Communications Corporation.
  • Appointed from 2010 at the Witwatersrand University, Johannesburg, South Africa.
 
Mr Ashraf Emleh: local arrangement
  • He received his Engineering Diploma from the University of Polytechnic in Timisoara, Romania.
  • Completed his technical training for his Master’s degree at Siemens, Germany.
  • He is currently employed at the University of Johannesburg in South Africa where he is pursuing his doctoral degree in power line communications.
 
Dr Miidzo Hove: local arrangement
  • He holds a BSc, MPhil and PhD.
  • He has 15 years of industrial experience combined in the power generation industry, iron and steel making, manufacturing of capacitors, and surge protection products.
  • He is a senior lecturer at the University of Johannesburg.
 
Mrs Wendy Smith: Secretariat
  • Personal assistant for Telecommunications Research Group.
  • Appointed at the University of Johannesburg since 2010.
